Team Infrastructure (4/12)

Your team isn't performing the way you need it to: What's your instinct?

A misunderstanding? A capability gap? Something else?

Think about the best team you’ve ever seen, or been a part of. Maybe it was genuinely productive. My experiences were where collaboration was fun, friction inspired innovation and lively debate and the overall energy was high and focused.

Now, consider the worst: Combative or maybe even toxic?

The hiring process in both environments tried to bring in the best possible candidates: So, what was the difference between the two?

Have you ever experienced situations with people who have seemed difficult in one environment were high-achieving collaborative team members in another?

What shifted?

The conditions. People understood (or they didn't) exactly why what they were doing mattered: How their contribution connected to something larger.
And those conditions were dependent upon whether the leader built an environment – the infrastructure - where each individual’s strengths were recognized, valued and engaged.

What’s the infrastructure of your team? How is it supporting the talent already in the room?
